My son loves to play with my phone and tablet. I still had my old (1st generation) iPad lying around somewhere doing nothing. So I charged it and let him play one of the old games I had (Angry Birds and FlickFootball). When I saw him playing with the iPad I was amazed that it still works well. Or more specifically: applications/games on the iPad work great. But once you navigate back to the OS or want to start the browser “the hurting starts…”. As a developer I can’t understand how typing something in the search bar has a slower response time than shooting through 3 levels of Angry Birds… There are articles about Apple purposely slowing down old iPhones or iPads. Seeing this it wouldn’t surprise me..

I started playing with the iPad myself. Games like Civilization Revolution and Virtual City. I wondered if the iPad could play Netflix series. My wife and I have been watching a lot of Netflix and sometimes want to watch different shows. Having only one tablet one of us has to revert to watching Netflix on the phone (me). So having the iPad as an alternative would definitely be handy… The problem is that it runs IOS 5 and all the applications are no longer compatible which prevents me from installing any new apps.

Or so I thought…

After some googling I found a site that explains that you should use the purchased tab in order to retrieve older versions of the app. So I have an iPhone I already got the apps I needed and from the iPad when using the purchased tab I was able to download a IOS 5 compatible version of Netflix. And to my own surprise the old Netflix app works! It doesn’t just work, it works awesomely well!
